Fave places and spaces on campus
Returning home for the remainder of spring semester was a major bummer. While taking class and studying in bed or at the kitchen table was fine for a few weeks, it just wasn’t the same as studying in The Cabin or taking classes in Centennial Hall. Let’s take a look back at some of our favorite spots on campus and get excited for fall semester.
The Outdoor Patios of Davies
Our favorite spot to catch some rays while studying! You can lay back in the lounge chairs and sip some lemonade to refresh. A nice breeze can relax your whole brain when you’re worried about exams. It’s also the perfect place to eat lunch with friends.
The Campus Mall
Ahh, the green grass and sunshine. We love when everyone congregates on the Campus Mall to play frisbee, eat lunch, and sunbathe. It’s like one big happy family! It’s always a great place to make new friends too. We can’t wait to catch some rays again in the fall — while social distancing, of course.
Einstein’s
The bright colored tables and aroma of coffee and bagels are the perfect combo when catching up on some work or taking a break between classes. You can also people-watch from the balcony up above. The low hum of chatter is so comforting. We miss it so much!
The Cabin
So many good memories come from the music performances at The Cabin. It’s also the perfect environment for late night studies with good pals or by yourself. Need a caffeine buzz to keep you going? The Cabin is the place to go!
Davies
When you can’t decide where to hang out on campus, Davies is the best option. There’s food, comfy couches, a fireplace, and even a piano. It’s also a marvelous place to charge your phone if you’re running out of battery because there are outlets EVERYWHERE. The variety of seating options is nice too. You can also see all the events happening around campus on the scattered bulletin boards covered in posters. Davies is like the home base of campus.
The Black Cultural Center
A network of students, faculty, and staff members helped bring the vision of the Black Cultural Center to life. The center opened on November 2, 2018 and serves as a meeting place for black student organizations as well as an informal gathering and drop-in space.
Another space devoted to the LatinX campus community will also be opening in the Hibbard Penthouse soon.
The Footbridge
The views! The breeze! My oh my! In the fall, we’ll get to see all the beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the Chippewa River just like we used to. If you didn’t know, it can be quite the romantic and meaningful spot. And if it gets a little chilly you can walk to the outdoor fire pits to get toasty! Maybe roast some ‘mallows??
Putnam Trail
A nice place for a little bit of nature. Head on over to Putnam Trail when you want to go for a hike and check out the beautiful colors in the fall. Relax from the stress of school and go on an adventure.
The Bridge in Davies
The Bridge LGBTQIA+ Resource Center (Davies 229) serves to provide a network of support for the LGBTQIA+ campus community. It’s a great place to educate yourself on social justice and equality, ask questions, and make some meaningful relationships. Stop and say hi next time and you could get a free button!
Haas Fine Arts Lobby
If you take music or art classes, then the lobby in Haas might be your favorite place to take breaks between classes. There are comfy chairs, a coffee cart, and the distant sound of music coming from classrooms down the hall.
The Ballrooms in Davies Center
All of your favorite campus events (Viennese Ball, Black History Month Celebrations, FireBall, Gatsby’s Gala) take place in the ballrooms inside Davies Center. We’re so excited to get back to all of the fun and educational opportunities that campus events have to offer.
McIntyre Library
From visiting the therapy dogs to organizing a late night cram session or creating something in the Makerspace, McIntyre Library is one of the coolest spots on campus. There is SO MUCH to explore at the library. Stay on one of the lower floors to meet with classmates, play a board game, or just hangout. Then, venture up to the 5th floor to search for a super quiet study spot.
Make sure to explore campus your first few weeks of class this fall OR book a campus tour if you want to see more of our favorite spaces at UW-Eau Claire. We truly can’t wait to see everyone again!
