We’ve hit the one month mark of quarantine. It’s been a long month of staying indoors, limiting our access to the outside world, and not seeing our Blugold buds. Some of us might have made this transition more smoothly than others, but nonetheless, we miss being on campus. We miss playing frisbee out on the campus mall. We miss Judi reminding us we’re her little chickadees. We miss admiring the campus ducks as we walk to our next class. We miss it all.

But FEAR NOT, we’re here to help bring some of the Blugold lifestyle back into your daily routine!

Without further adieu, here’s how to “Blugold” during quarantine:

1. Make yourself a Chicken Teriyaki Bowl

UW-Eau Claire’s most beloved block meal. These are actually incredibly simple to make! We’re not going to give you Sushi Do’s recipe (because that would be a crime), but there are only a few ingredients you’ll need and you can make it right on your stovetop.

Here’s a recipe we love….

See? Super easy. A simple way to “Blugold” during quarantine.

2. Admire all the ducks you see

It sounds weird, we get it. But is it any less weird when we’re on campus admiring the ducks in Little Niagara? We’re sure our campus ducks miss us, but we’re also sure they would want us to appreciate all of the other ducks in the world too. Moving forward, let’s make all ducks honorary campus ducks.

3. Walk up a hill

We know this doesn’t sound like the most appealing idea, but no Blugold experience is complete without a stroll up the infamous hill! If you’ve ever lived on campus, it might not be the first thing you miss, but wow does it keep us in shape. Plus, this will get you outside for some fresh air and exercise! It’s the perfect study break.

4. Float virtually with your friends

Because of social distancing, you probably won’t be able to float down the mighty Chippewa River. But who says you can’t pretend? Blow up that inner-tube, hop on a Zoom call with your pals and throw on some shades! Not only will this connect you with your friends, but you can do it while soaking up some sunshine. BONUS: You won’t have to worry about parking two cars in two different spots.

5. Wear your Blugold gear for Blugold Fridays

Just because we’re not on campus doesn’t mean you can’t sport your Blugold gear! Whip out that sweatshirt, t-shirt or hat on Fridays. Chancellor Jim and Blu won’t be there to give you candy for sporting your school spirit, but as a Blugold, lack of school spirit is sure hard to come by.

6. Make yourself a bagel and a cup of coffee

We know you’re missing Einstein Bagels and campus coffee. Try toasting up some bagels from the store and pairing it with a cup of coffee at home. Just because you’re away from the good stuff doesn’t mean you have to go without it. Maybe even hop on FaceTime with a pal and make it a bagel date!!

7. Share your projects and performances

If you’ve worked hard on a research project, theatre/music performance, writing assignment, etc. — share it with us on social media. We want to admire the work you would’ve displayed on campus if classes were still in-person. All you have to do is upload your video or a photo of your project to social media (FB, Twitter, Instagram) and tag us in it (@uweauclaire) or use the hashtag #BlugoldsFlyTogether. Let’s keep the love alive, Blugolds!!

Stay strong, stay safe and stay healthy, Blugolds. Let’s fly together 💙💛
