How to Make the Most of Your Summer Days in Eau Claire.
Do you ever feel like summer is just passing you by? Tired of the routine of sleeping until noon and losing half of your day? June 20th is National Productivity Day, so here are some tips on how to stay motivated to be your best throughout the heat of summer.
Wake up Early
Getting a head start to the day will give you more hours of daylight so that you can fit more into your schedule. Yes, you may be used to waking up at lunch, but catching a beautiful sunrise will surely start your day on the right foot. You can even have a nice cup of coffee to get your juices flowing. *Pro tip: Eau Claire Downtown Coffee opens at 6 a.m. — just in time to snap that sunrise selfie!
Make a Checklist
Writing down everything you want to accomplish will help you to visualize your goals, and crossing off tasks is so satisfying. You can use paper, a mobile notes app, or a spreadsheet if you’re really serious. If making a list is intimidating, try to start small and write down three big goals for the day and tackle the most daunting task first. Don’t forget to reward yourself here and there. Maybe ice cream with a friend?
Get Active Outside
Eau Claire has so many great biking and walking trails to offer. Choose one that’s nearest to you, or push yourself by walking up and down the Hill a couple times. That will definitely get your heart pumping! Being active will stimulate your brain and keep you motivated all day long. Floating down the Chippewa River is another summer favorite. The Vitamin D from the sun will also help your nerves send messages from your brain to other parts of the body.
Try Something New
Summer is the perfect time to pick up a new hobby or attend an event you’ve never been to. Every Saturday, there’s a farmers market near Phoenix Park where you can buy fresh vegetables, flowers, or handmade trinkets. Other events in Eau Claire are Summer Cinema — a free movie showing on the Campus Mall every Wednesday Night, and Sunset Sounds — live music performances by students and faculty every other Monday. Check out the schedules HERE.
Eat a Healthy Meal
We all know you made an entire Pinterest board of healthy meal options, but you haven’t looked at those recipes since you saved them. Invite a friend over to impress with your Gordon Ramsay-like skills. Or, if you don’t have the capacity to cook, try a local restaurant like The Informalist or a mobile food truck like Locavore.
Unplug
In today’s society we’re often glued to our phones even when we’re sitting on the toilet. Try leaving the gadgets off for a day or maybe just a couple hours, so you can really focus your attention on the important stuff. Enjoy everything in the moment and connect with other people…actually face to face.
Hopefully these tips help you to get the most out of your summer break. Just remember to have fun and stay safe. Happy National Productivity Day, Blugolds!
