As some of you may know, smiling can improve your mood and reduce stress. Since today is #NationalSmileDay, we thought we’d celebrate by sharing what activities, events, and qualities about UWEC make our campus community grin.

1.Campus Beauty

There’s no doubt about this one. From beautiful sunrises and sunsets to gorgeous fall colors, the natural beauty that UWEC encompasses easily makes students share a smile with friends.

Students enjoy the view of the bridge and Chippewa River from Putnam Rock.

2. Move-In Day

Move-in day is probably one of the most exciting days of the year. While students might feel a little nervous, our Hall Raisers are on-site to lighten the mood, help out and get everyone pumped up for the new school year.

3. Blugold Welcome Week

There are a million reasons to smile the first week of classes. Different activities and events like tie-dying shirts, participating in recreation classes, and hanging out on the campus mall help students get to know UWEC and their peers a bit more.

4. Blugold Marching Band

Students usually don’t miss out on a performance from the Blugold Marching Band (AKA: BMB). Their fancy footwork and upbeat music is enough to get anyone in the mood to smile and dance along.

5. Therapy Dogs

What’s better than petting a pup? In our opinion, nothing really comes close. Students have the opportunity to hangout with therapy dogs multiple times throughout the year. If they’re feeling a little stressed, therapy dogs usually help bring about some smiles.

6. Recreation

Smiling brings about good vibes, but so does exercise. There are a variety of ways for students to stay in shape and enjoy it with friends. Some examples are Zumba, Yoga, Cycling, HIIT, and Weight Training.

7. The City of Eau Claire

Just thinking of the countless things to do both on-and-off campus make us grin. Students often hang out at Phoenix Park located downtown, as well as the record store, farmers market, bike trails, coffee shops, and restaurants.

8. Festivals and Celebrations

Students love gathering to celebrate a variety of occasions. From Spring Fest to the Black History Month Celebration, there are countless ways for everyone on campus to get to know one another and build friendships.

9. Music Groups

With an award-winning jazz program and various acapella and choir groups, it’s easy for students to get involved or take in a concert. Either way, there is lots of fun to be had with music at UWEC.

10. Excellent Faculty and Staff Members

Our faculty and staff members make UWEC what it is. They are kind, hard-working, and smart. Seeing everything they do to make the student experience worthwhile certainly makes us smile!

Hopefully this list brought a smile to your face! We’re excited to see you on campus whether you’re coming for a visit or will be attending classes in the fall.

Happy #NationalSmileDay, Blugolds!!
