Halloween is sneaking up on us, and while it’s going to be different this year, we still want to safely celebrate this spooky season! Halloween costumes are a great way to show off your creative talent, but it can be hard to think of a costume that includes masks. Have no fear, we have some great suggestions and ways to make Halloween spooky and safe!

Match Your Mask to Your Costume

After you’ve decided what your costume is, the next step is to find a mask to match! Fortunately, many costumes already have masks included. If your costume has a spooky mask already, you can slip a face mask on underneath. But, if your costume normally wouldn’t have a face mask, it’s pretty easy to find a mask that will take your costume to the next level. If you are thinking of being a cowboy or cowgirl, you can wear a bandana or get a mask with tassels. Feeling magical? Try a mask with sequins or gems!

Great Creative with Your Makeup

Face make-up is a great way to improve your costume. There are incredible looks you can do around your eyes and pair it with a mask to really make your costume safe and stunning. Take a look on Pinterest to find creative looks to make your costume memorable.

Not Dressing up this Year? We’ve got ideas for you too!

If costumes aren’t your thing, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween. Carve a pumpkin, play Among Us, or put on a Halloween movie. We recommend Hocus Pocus, but if you enjoy the scarier movies, The Conjuring is a great choice too. Be sure to decorate your dorm, house or apartment to really set a spooky mood.

And to complete your at-home celebration, we’ve got lots of Halloween treat recommendations….

  • Pick up a jack-o-lantern take n’ bake pizza from Papa Murphy’s
  • Grab a big bowl and fill half of it with dry roasted peanuts and the other half with candy corn. Can you say salty and sweet?!
  • Make some delicious dirt cups with gummy worms. Remember these from when you were a kid?
  • Mix up a 1/4 C. of sugar, 2 tsp. cinnamon, and a 1/2 tsp. of nutmeg. Coat the rim of a drinking glass in maple syrup and then dip that in your mixture. Fill up your cup with apple cider and you’ve got a fancy Halloween drink.
  • Put together a Halloween charcuterie board using pretzels, candy corn, peanuts, Halloween M&M’s, Tootsie Rolls, and other favorite treats.
  • Mix together buttered popcorn and your favorite M&M’s. Let the chocolate melt a bit in the hot popcorn. DELISH.

BOO-Gold Events

There are going to be some terrifyingly fun events on campus too. We challenge you in our Spooktacular Pumpkin Carving Contest to make the best UWEC or Blugold themed jack-o-lantern! Sign up to pick up a FREE pumpkin on October 29, 2020 between 1 and 4 p.m. with this link. Submit your picture to the Canvas module for a chance to win a spooky prize.

If pumpkins aren’t your thing, participate in the GhostChase scavenger hunt on campus. The scavenger hunt starts Friday, Oct. 30 and goes until Sunday, Nov. 1. You can participate individually or form a team of up to 5 people! Sign up here by the end of the day on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Keep Your Interactions Limited

The most important thing to remember this Halloween is to be safe. As much fun as it is to see all of your friends and their costumes, try to keep your interactions limited. Celebrate with your roommates and show off your costume on social media. Make it a Zoom party and connect with friends from the safety of your home.
