For those of you that are sticking around the area for summer, we wrote up some safe and fun things to do so that you can have the best summer experience. Pick and choose your favorites and have a blast!

Hiking

If you’re looking for an adventurous way to get some exercise, go explore some nearby parks with hiking trails like Willow River State Park near Hudson, WI or Hoffman Hills State Recreation Area near Menomonie. If you don’t want to trek so far, just head to Mount Simon right in Eau Claire. Be sure to get some awesome pics at the summit or along the way!

Be Crafty

Try the tie-dye trends or painting outside. Make something you’re proud of and you can show it off to your friends! You could even make something as a gift for someone you care about. Friendship bracelets anyone?

Float Down the Chip

Cool down on a hot day with a lazy river-style float down the Chippewa River. Tie together some tubes with your pals and relax to sound of the water. It’s a refreshing way to get some sun and possibly see some wildlife. Keep an eye out for the mild rapids towards the end though, and don’t forget sunscreen!

Pick Some Fruit

Eau Claire has some nearby fruit farms like strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries where you can pick your own straight from the fields! Fresh fruit is a delicious and healthy summer snack, so stock up.

Try Some Sweet Treats

Support local businesses like Olson’s, Ramone’s, or Roadside for some delicious ice cream after a long summer day. There are so many flavors to choose from, so you may have to try them all throughout the months of hot weather!

Picnic at a Park

Grab some snacks and a blanket and head to a nearby grassy area. Carson Park, Phoenix Park, or Owen Park are all great options to set up a little picnic. Bring a speaker too and listen to some music that fits your vibe. Maybe plan for sunset to catch the beautiful golden light.

Travel the Trails

Eau Claire has many miles of trails perfect for running, biking, blading, or just leisurely walking! Enjoy the outdoors and see more of the city while getting some exercise in. Make sure you stay hydrated!

Here’s a great start to keep you busy, but there’s so much more to do:

Cooking and grilling, geocaching, hammocking, viewing the murals and sculptures downtown, or taking a camping trip are just a few more. Make the most of summer and stay safe, Blugolds!
